Privacy Policy

GuruLib's privacy policy is to not share any personal information provided by her users with any third party for commercial or non-commercial purpose. GuruLib will send you email only with your consent. GuruLib allows the option to have private shelfs. We will make sure to the best of our abilities to not make the contents of private shelf visible to any other GuruLib user other than owner.

What Information do GuruLib collect?

When you join GuruLib you provide personal information such as birthday, email, real name, zip etc. which you knowingly choose to disclose. When you catalog items in the library, GuruLib stores information about your library in its database.

What is the need for all the personal information?

GuruLib uses personal information such as zip to identify other GuruLib users near you and also to identify public libraries that are near to your location so that GuruLib can make a judicious decision as to where to fetch the catalog information.
Email is used to send notification about borrow request, someone wrote a comment or price trigger. You can override Email notification in your "settings" page.
Birthday and real name are not currently being used for any purpose.

How can you keep GuruLib free?

GuruLib receives around 4% comission when somebody buys items in their wishlist or buys items when they are watching for price drop. Till now I have received a total of 2.40$ from two books that I bought.
We are not incuring any extra expense in hosting GuruLib. GuruLib is currently hosted on the same server that hosts Christina's personal website. Primary reason for GuruLib was to help organize our home library. Rather than keeping this service just for ourselves we thought of sharing it with others. We will continue to accept new registrations to GuruLib till the load on our current server neccessitates the purchase of costlier web hosting options. All previously registered users can continue to use this service even after that.
